Alex Bollen
Trustee
Alex Bollen is a researcher, writer and postnatal practitioner. She was a director at Ipsos MORI and is now a self-employed researcher. She qualified as a Postnatal Practitioner with the NCT in 2012.
Her book Motherdom: Breaking Free from Bad Science and Good Mother Myths was published by Verso in 2025. The Washington Post described Motherdom as “a thorough investigation into the intense pressures mothers face” and The New Yorker praised the book for being “irascible, informative.”
Beverley Pannell
Founder & Chair
Beverley founded Motherhood Uncensored to make space for the range of things we don’t let ourselves say, or even think, about motherhood.
She is interested in the politics and economics of motherhood, feminism and maternal wellbeing, and has written for The New Feminist, Mutter Magazine and Make Birth Better. She also contributed a chapter to the compendium Weaving Our Way: Beyond Patriarchy (Womancraft Publishing).
Preeti Dhillon

Preeti is a researcher, writer and historian. She is passionate about capturing hidden stories from oppressed and marginalised communities. She was an Independent Research Fellow with the Women’s History Network 2021-2022.
Her debut book The Shoulders We Stand On: How Black and Brown people fought for change in the United Kingdom was published in September 2023 by Dialogue Books. Preeti’s essay How I Grew A Life was published in Fox & Windmill’s anthology Tales From the Kitchen, and she has written for think-tanks, NGOs, Shout Out UK and The Rights Collective, and was longlisted for Penguin WriteNow in 2020.
Prof Tina Miller

Tina Miller is a Professor of Sociology at Oxford Brookes University in the UK. Her research interests include family lives and significant transitions in relation to parenthood, gender, identities and reproductive health and she specialises in qualitative longitudinal research to explore unfolding experiences. She has advised think tanks, political parties and parliamentary committees in the UK and the EU and collaborated with colleagues at WHO and other NGOs. She has participated in TV and radio programmes and has authored three BBC Radio 4 Analysis programmes/podcasts on aspects of contemporary family lives, based on her research findings. The most recent BBC Analysis programme (June 2023) explored the question ‘What's Changing about Childbirth’ in response to the increased number of emergency c-section births found in her study.
Tina’s fourth Cambridge University Press monograph ‘Motherhood: Contemporary Transitions and Generational Change’, was published in November 2023 and examines women’s experiences of transition to first-time motherhood 21 years after her original study ‘Making Sense of Motherhood: A Narrative Approach’ (2005). This latest monograph was awarded a prestigious Outstanding Academic Title award with the notation that it was ‘[A] must-read volume for scholars and parents navigating their own transitions into parenthood. … Essential.’ A.
